BatteryGuard is almost ready

It’s in final testing. It will cost $4.99, once. You’ll be able to buy it here on release day.

Install

Four steps. You only need to do this once.

On macOS 14 Sonoma you can skip steps 2 and 3: Control-click BatteryGuard in Applications, choose Open, then click Open again.

System requirements

  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later
  • A MacBook with Apple silicon or an Intel processor
  • No internet connection, no administrator password

Allow notifications

When you first open BatteryGuard, macOS asks whether it may send notifications. Click Allow, or the reminders can’t appear.

If you clicked Don’t Allow, open System Settings → Notifications, find BatteryGuard and turn on Allow notifications.

Want only one battery icon in the menu bar? Hide macOS’s own in System Settings → Control Center → Battery.

You see BatteryGuard.zip, not the app

Safari unzips downloads on its own; Chrome, Firefox and other browsers leave BatteryGuard.zip as it is. Double-click BatteryGuard.zip in Downloads and the BatteryGuard app appears next to it. Drag the app onto Applications in the Finder sidebar, then continue with step 2 above. Move it to Applications before opening it: run from Downloads, macOS keeps it in a temporary read-only place.

If Open Anyway doesn’t appear in Privacy & Security after you try to open BatteryGuard, open Terminal, paste xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/BatteryGuard.app and press Return, then open BatteryGuard again. This tells macOS you trust the app you just bought; it doesn’t change anything else.

Updates

The download link from your purchase always gives you the latest version. What changed in each one is in the changelog.

Uninstall

Quit BatteryGuard, then move it from Applications to the Trash.
